Specific learning intentions
Science can help find answers about the world. Chemistry can be used to solve mysteries. Use evidence left at a scene to plan and carry out scientific investigations and solve a mystery.
Substances that are soluble will dissolve in water. Demonstrate and describe what happens when powders are dissolved in water.
Solutions can be identified as acids or bases. Observe colour changes and identify acids and bases using an indicator.
Chromatography can be used to separate out the pigments in different ink mixtures. Test and compare the ink samples using chromatography.
Scientific investigations may involve pattern seeking, experimentation, fair testing Observe and analyse patterns and soil composition in a shoe print.
Scientists investigate to answer questions about the world. Investigate (fair testing, pattern seeking, identifying and classifying) to find possible answers to their questions.
In Science all ideas matter and scientists often work together to help each other. Collaborate to plan and carry out investigations. Respect others' ideas.
