Frequently asked questions

Why Science Alive?

We are accessible
Our education portal is designed to be seamlessly integrated into the classroom. Assign a variety of lessons with ease and ensure student accessibility with features like our immersive reader and video content. Each resource scaffolds surface to deep learning outcomes through layers of recall, reading comprehension and evidence-based activities. With a range of interactive resources designed for ages 7+: from quizzes and project-based learning experiences to hands-on science investigations, every lesson consolidates knowledge with optional practical activities to extend student thinking. Whether completing lessons as a class or independent self-directed tasks, we acknowledge and cater to varied access to devices. Most importantly, it is completely free for educators to use.
We are curious
Encouraging our young people to explore the world around them, our resources encompass a wide range of topics across Science, Technology and Innovation while organically threading language and Mātauranga from Māori and Pacific worldviews. Covering diverse concepts across the curriculum, we aim to promote 21st-century skills while highlighting inspirational leaders in STEAM fields. These lessons and activities provide unique experiences, breaking the mould of learning as we know it.
We are community-focused
Committed to honoring Te Tiriti o Waitangi and representing our diverse communities, a wide range of experts have contributed to the development of lessons that acknowledge our past, present and future populations. Our partnerships with key innovators and organisations allow us to create meaningful resources that cater to nationally and globally relevant contexts. The purpose behind our inclusion of te reo Māori and Pasifika languages within these resources is to encourage the participation of our main languages within mainstream classes in Aotearoa, and ensure our rangatahi are reflected in their own learning content.
We are innovative
With curriculum-aligned lessons that encourage out-of-the-box thinking, our resources empower students to challenge their mindset and understand different perspectives. Crafted and developed based on user feedback and expert knowledge, our resources cater to a range of ages, allowing rangatahi to engage with up-to-date content. These resources can act as a standalone experience or as a strong foundation of curiosity for extended learning and unexpected pathways of discovery.

Frequently asked questions

If you're a kaiako, simply create an account on our education portal using your school email. Discover lessons, add to your favourites and create live codes to share with your students. We have plenty of support material and a team available to assist you at any stage.
As part of our charitable purpose and goal to make science and technology education accessible to all, our content is completely free for both students and teachers. Homeschooling families, school support staff, teachers in training and school leadership teams are also welcome to access the portal – just register with your email and we will be in touch to get you set up. Our resources cover a wide range of topics, including scientific concepts, historical milestones, and engagement with industry specialists across science, technology, and innovation fields. Our initial offering has been developed with experts and partners including well known platform Education Perfect. Curated with a large focus on developing transferable skills within the Nature of Science framework through a variety of strands and topics, these resources provide relevance across the curriculum. This means our resources are not only a fantastic Science resource but also powerful in enhancing Literacy, Numeracy, Technology and Inquiry through localised contexts.
Kaiako can browse lessons from their dashboard and choose a lesson that suits. Simply create a live code, which can then be shared with students to access on separate devices, or displayed through the teachers account on a larger screen to complete the lesson as a class. Schools can also access our content through the Education Perfect website with a teacher login.
